Within a 24-hour span, Saint Lucia recorded its fourth and fifth murders for 2024, both occurring in the community of Gros Islet. On January 15th, a fatal shooting in Gros Islet resulted in the death of a man in his twenties, casting a somber tone over the beginning of the year in Saint Lucia. According to reports, the victim sustained a single gunshot wound along Dauphin Street, prompting an active investigation by the Royal St. Lucia Police Force. Responders from the Gros Islet Fire Station rushed to the scene, where the victim was found without vital signs. Despite efforts, a medical professional pronounced the individual dead.

Less than 24 hours later, a male victim, now identified as Eric Hughes, a French national, was shot dead on the road pavement near a parked SUV. Details regarding this incident are still coming in.
