St. Lucian Julien Alfred has bested a tough field to win the 100m title at the Istvan Gyulai Memorial in her professional debut. Alfred, who won the race in 10.89 seconds, beat the USA 100m champion, Sha’Carri Richardson’s (10.97) in the process.

Joining in the celebratory commendations after Alfred’s performance was Minister for Culture and MP for Castries South, Ernest Hilaire. On a post on his social media page, the Minister noted”You just can’t get enough of her! Remember her name!” Leader of the Opposition, Allen Chastanet also chimed in with a congratulatory message about the sprinter.

“I am absolutely thrilled to extend my heartfelt congratulations to @julien.alfred on winning a gold medal in the 100m at her professional debut at the Gyulai Istvan Memorial meet in Hungary. I have no doubt that this gold medal win be the first of many more victories to come in your career, ” he remarked.

The race provides perfect impetus for the phenom from Ciceron, as she prepares for the upcoming World Championships in Budapest, Poland next month.
