Minister for Foreign Affairs, Honorable Alva Baptiste, has welcomed Canada’s recent decision to add St. Lucia to its Visa Waiver Program. Last week, the North American country announced that the island would one of 13 additional countries to have access to the nation visa-free. These stipulations are only partial, however, as only persons who had a Canadian visa over the last 10 years or persons with a valid US-Visa can have access to the benefits.
Regardless of the partiality, Minster Baptiste sees the move as a step in the right direction for the country. He further went on to add that this is the result of assiduous work done by successive administrations to lift the restrictions.
While thankful for the progress, the MP for Laborie, appeal to St. Lucians to proceed with an abundance of caution and engage in good behavior, so they do not reverse the work that has already been done.
“I will say to encourage St. Lucians at home and abroad to be law-abiding citizens” he said. “If we observe that particular aspect of things, it would minimize the possibility of such consequences. It would minimize the possibility of visa facilities being imposed” Baptiste added.
