Foreign Affairs Minister, Alva Baptiste has dispelled claims by the United Workers Party that he is living large. This comes after the UWP posted a photo of a cheque in excess of thirteen thousand dollars, which they claim to be related to his recent trip to the Bahamas. Not only did Baptiste call out the inaccuracy of these claims, but he also called for his accusers not to engage in frivolous behavior.
“There are standard rates” the Minister said. “It depends on where you go. There is a rate for Europe, America and its applied consistently, whether it’s a minister or a public officer… You are attacking public officers when you say thirteen thousand dollars is X,Y or Z” he added.
The Minister also stated that the cheque was not for his recent trip but was rather a stipend for an upcoming engagement in Washington DC, later this year. He added that he is focused on utilizing his God-given talents to continue to support the development of St Lucians, in spite of the accusations.
