On Friday, January 5, 2024, around 2:30 a.m., near Peynier Street in Castries, police officers discharged rounds of ammunition at a male suspect who sustained injuries. The incident occurred after officers attempted to stop a vehicle for a traffic infraction. The driver fled, abandoned the vehicle, and engaged in a foot chase with officers. The suspect then discharged his weapon at the officers, prompting them to use lethal force. A Taurus pistol and live ammunition were recovered from the suspect, identified as 30-year-old Hiram Joseph of Ciceron, Castries. Joseph faces charges including Using Firearm with Intent, Attempted Murder, Driving without a Valid Driver’s License, and Driving without Motor Vehicle Insurance. He is currently remanded at the Bordelais Correctional Facility and must pay a fine of fifteen thousand dollars (XCD15,000.00) or face incarceration.
