On January 18th, an innovative learning business named JOIE Innovative Learning Solutions was officially launched, aiming to transform the lives of Saint Lucian students. Founded by educator Bernice Lewis, the initiative focuses on making learning enjoyable and innovative through the incorporation of the latest technology, particularly virtual reality (VR). With VR becoming a global educational tool, JOIE aims to provide students with dynamic and fun learning experiences in digital environments.
Originally established as a nonprofit organization, JOIE has achieved a remarkable one hundred percent pass rate among students. The business is dedicated to eliminating dull classrooms and prioritizes metacognition, recognizing that some students struggle not because they can’t grasp concepts but due to a lack of engagement. JOIE intends to address this by championing gamification in the classroom, ensuring that students find the learning process enjoyable.
Exploring the significance of this initiative further, Bernice Joy Lewis, the Founder and Director of JOIE, emphasized that the business was designed to flourish in a constantly evolving world. She highlighted that the organization would persist in promoting innovation as it nurtures the upcoming generation of thinkers.
“The world is changing and with new technologies coming on stream, such as artificial intelligence and the creation of the metaverse, we will look for more efficient and effective ways of doing things” she said. “This is important because it is scientifically proven that a positive engaged, motivated child, who feels capable of learning, will most likely excel in school”
