The St Lucia Hospitality and Tourism Association (SLHTA) has continued its mandate to aid in the development of youth in St. Lucia, through the donation of funds to the St. Lucia Fire Service’s Summer Camp. Designed to cater to Form 4 and 5 students in south of the island, the program will seek to train participants in basic life skills, among other disciplines. With the contribution of a cheque of over fifty thousand dollars, the SLHTA aims to lighten the cost of funding the initiative for the camp organizers as they strive to make a positive impact on the lives of young people.
According to SLHTA CEO, Noorani Azeez, the contribution serves as part of a broader mandate to meet the needs of youth. He noted that often, young people do not have the necessary assistance to tackle the challenges that they face and that adults must step in to aid in their development.
“The reality is very clear, our youth, they’re fighting fires and they’re fighting fires with very limited skillsets” Azeez noted. “It is incumbent on [adults], very critical, that we equip them to address these issues” he added.
The Fire Service Summer Camp will be held from August 7th – 11th, 2023.
