The National Emergency Management Organization (NEMO) is hosting chainsaw management workshop for the various district disaster committee members on island, today, June 20. The workshop, is being held at NEMOs headquarters in Bisee, Castries. This training is focused on the emergency workers in the northern districts, with another for the southern communities scheduled to take place later in the year.
According to Maintenance Officer for NEMO, Malcolm Job, the participants are being trained on how to properly use and maintain the equipment. “In the event that we are impacted and [the participants] may be the one travelling along a roadway and there is this fallen tree along the road and lo and behold you have access to a chainsaw, [participants] are trained to make life easy for [themselves] and to make the road passable” he said.
Mr. Job added that this training is not merely to provide skills techniques for use in everyday personal issues but will empower disaster committees to assist the recovery effort in case of eventualities.
The training is timely, as the island is expected to be impacted by Tropical Storm Bret within the next few days. NEMO Hosts Chainsaw Workshop for District Disaster Committee Members
