The battle between Speaker of the House Claudius Francis and Leader of the Opposition, Allen Chastanet is far from over, in spite of the suspension being lifted. Following the publicizing of the new developments in the case, the Speaker of the House took to his talk show to argue that the substance of Chastanet’s case challenged the constitutionality of a section of the standing orders which have existed for over four decades. Francis maintains that he did nothing out of the ordinary and went on to claim that it was the parliament that suspended Chastanet and not him.
“After 44 years of the standing orders he now seeks a declaration that the standing orders are unconstitutional” Francis stated. “ I am 212% positive that the court will return a verdict in our favour”
For now, the matter has been sent for case management and is expected to be heard in July.
