One man is nursing wounds following a shooting in Monchy, Gros Islet on Tuesday July 11th. According to reports, emergency officials found the victim, who has been identified as Customs Officer Peter Norbal, in his vehicle, with an injury to the neck. He was later taken to a medical facility for further care.

The shooting has drawn condemnation from Prime Minister Philip J. Pierre. In a post on his social media pages, Pierre noted that attacks against law enforcement officers must not go unchecked.

“It is deeply troubling that such an incident has occurred, and it is our collective responsibility to stand against any form of violence targeting those who serve and protect” the PM said.

The incident further prompted custom officers from both Vieux Fort and Castries departments to hold a meeting on July 12th with the Comptroller. This gathering was meant to address the officers’ safety concerns whist executing their duties.

A police investigation into this latest attack is on-going. Hot7 News Online will update you when further details are available.
