Following the recent $47 million agreement with cruise port operator Global Port Holdings, Prime Minister Philip J. Pierre is confident that the country has secured the most favorable arrangement possible. This agreement will facilitate the commencement of redevelopment projects for the Castries waterfront and Soufriere port. Upon completion, anticipated benefits include expanded harbor capacity for larger cruise ships and an improved atmosphere benefiting visitors, stakeholders, and vendors.
However, the Opposition United Workers Party remains unconvinced. They have voiced doubts about the deal’s legitimacy and its potential consequences for the nation’s future.
Despite the opposition’s reservations, the Prime Minister stands firm in his belief that this collaboration will enhance the country’s economic stance. Pierre asserts that all stakeholders stand to gain from the partnership with Global Port Holdings and will flourish through this cooperation.
“As far as I know, we got the best deal possible.” Pierre said. “What I am very happy about is that the vendors will be taken care of, the people will be taken care of.” he added.
