Prime Minister, Philip J. Pierre says he is among frustrated citizens over the pace of works on the Millennium Highway. Over the past few months, St. Lucians have expressed outrage over the project delays with some even noting that the highway seems worse now than it was before the repair project began.
At a special press conference on Tuesday July 26, Pierre sided with the public calling for works to be expedited to relieve the situation. However, he stressed that his hands are tied in contractual obligations associated with the project.
“What’s happening there is ridiculous. What is happening there is calling to heaven for vengeance. But, we are tied into certain contracts that are difficult to get out of” he said.
The Prime Minister added that those protesting the deplorable situation had his full support. He claimed that if he could lead the demonstrations over the situation, he would.
“I support them and if I could lead the demonstration tomorrow against that road, I will go” Pierre said.
