The St Lucia Fire Service has given a series of guidelines to inform the behavior of St. Lucians, concerning the rise in temperatures over the past few days. The Caribbean is currently experiencing an excessive, heat wave, ahead of the hurricane season and the results of this can be felt on island. These weather conditions are expected to extend over the next few months.
According to Fire Service officials, citizens should take note of the following:
• Monitor local news stations for all weather updates and advisories.
• Remain indoors in air conditioning when possible.
• If outdoor activities are necessary, frequently rest in shaded areas; avoid activity during the hottest times of the day.
• Stay well-hydrated by drinking plenty of fluids.
• Avoid alcoholic beverages, which are dehydrating; drink bottled or boiled water.
• Wear loose-fitting, light-coloured clothing.
• Cotton fabrics are more cooling than synthetics
