Five individuals inclusive of 3 men and 2 men, lost their lives in what can only be described as a gruesome weekend. With shootings claiming the lives of four individuals in Dennery in two separate incidents and one man succumbing in La Clery also due to gun violence, the island has officially recorded over 40 killings this year.

One of the shootings in Dennery caused the deaths of victims between the ages of the 17 and 22 years old. The two females and one male were all pronounced dead by a practitioner at a medical facility. The male, who has been identified as twenty-two-year-old Penlly ‘Srimpy’ Fones of La Ressource, Vieux Fort, was a well-known young photographer on the rise. Fones is believed to have been unintentionally struck by the bullets.

According to reports, all three individuals were revelers at the recently concluded Dennery Carnival celebrations. This has raised further questions by observers as to whether or not the populace will be safe at cultural events on island throughout the carnival season.

Deceased: Penlly ‘Srimpy’ Fones
