A 100 run 2nd Wicket Partnership between Brandon King and Nicholas Pooran guided the West Indies Men’s Cricket Team to a T20 series victory against India on Sunday, August 13. The victory in Florida, comes after a keenly contested 5-match series between the two teams. Having won the first two t20s, the Men in Maroon faced a strong fightback by Pandya’s boys, as the Indians secured back to back victories to tie the series.
The 5th game, which effectively served as a final, got off to an incredible start for the home team, as they claimed two wickets in the powerplay. A solid knock from Suryakumar Yadav (65) gave the visitors some hope, in pursuit of a competitive total. However, a Player of the Match performance from Romario Shepherd (4-31), pegged India back, forcing them to post only 165.
In response, the Windies comfortably chased down the score within 17 overs, winning the match by 8 wickets. In spite of multiple rain delays during the second innings, a stellar performance from Brandon King (85*) guided the Caribbean side home and allow them to claim the series 3-2.
The win provides a sigh of relief for Daren Sammy’s men, as they prepare for the 2024 T20 World Cup in the Caribbean.
